It is safe to assume that your new child does not know any English. Your child may learn it quickly, but your knowledge of a few basic Portuguese “survival” phrases will ease the transition period. You don’t have to learn how to ask a bus driver for directions to the snake farm. You don’t need to know how to order black bean soup from the menu.
